Sharp touts new water

Sharp has unveiled a new Windows 8 tablet that apparently isn’t afraid of the water.

Shown in the flesh at the CEATEC show in Japan on Monday, the Mebius Pad offers a water-resistant body combined with a high-resolution display, reported Engadget, which got ahold of one.

The tablet is deemed both waterproof and dustproof and is currently being certified as such.

The Mebius Pad packs 2,560×1,600 pixels into its 10.1-inch screen, giving it a much sharper resolution than any other Windows 8 tablet on the market. But it could potentially prove a bit underpowered, outfitted with Intel’s quad-core Z3370 Atom processor.

The basic Windows 8.1 edition will include Microsoft Office for free, Engadget notes. But buyers who opt for the Windows 8.1 Pro edition will have to kick in some extra cash for Office.

The Mebius Pad may also be limited to Japanese buyers. The device isn’t expected to travel beyond its home country once it launches early next year.
