Samsung’s Android BBM app heads to Africa on Friday

Samsung is planning to launch its Android-based BlackBerry Messenger app in Africa later this week.

The company reportedly confirmed the news on Monday, saying that its customers in Africa will have access to BBM via the Samsung Messaging Hub on Friday. According to CNET sister site ZDNet, which earlier reported on the news, it’s possible that Samsung will have exclusive access to BBM in Africa for a period of three months.

Samsung and BlackBerry announced in August that they had formed a partnership that will see the popular messaging application make its way to Galaxy phones. BBM is extremely popular in Africa, making it a smart move on Samsung’s part to launch the feature in that market.
