The Omnia 7 GT-i8700, the first of Samsung’s Windows Phone 7 handsets, has been officially announced.
Ahead of the launch of Microsoft’s new mobile operating system this afternoon, Samsung’s Russian arm revealed details about the new smart phone on its website. Video and photos of the handset have been leaked previously.
The Omnia 7 looks like a goodie, with a 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with an 800×400-pixel resolution, and a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p, high-definition videos. It will have 8MB of storage, and Bluetooth, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The phone will come with the Zune Pass music-streaming software, and Xbox Live compatibility. A number of games will be available for purchase and download.
Like the other Windows 7 Phone handsets making their debut today, the Omnia 7 is expected to make it to shops by 21 October. Don’t be surprised if there is a delay though.
The Omnia 7 is part of a swathe of Samsung handsets that will reach the shops in time for Christmas. The Galaxy 551 is an upcoming Android phone, and there will also be a choice of five Wave handsets running the Bada platform. We’re expecting the Galaxy Tab tablet to come our way at the beginning of November as well.
The Samsung Omnia 7 has impressive hardware, but the key factor is how well Windows Phone 7 runs. Spill your brain syrup in the comments section below.
