The ongoing patent dispute between Apple and Samsung is a protracted and painful experience, but it does have its upsides.
Thanks to documents submitted by Samsung in the patent case in the US, we now have our first glimpse of what to expect from Samsung when Microsoft releases the major Windows Phone 8 OS update in the fourth quarter of this year. According to an image obtained by The Verge, Samsung has two phones in mind, a top-shelf number codenamed Odyssey and a mid-range offering called Marco.
Both handsets will be 4G compatible (although this could refer to US 4G only), and both will run on the Qualcomm MSM8960 processor. Odyssey will have the more impressive display of the two; a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED panel with HD resolution, not unlike the one used in the Samsung-made Galaxy Nexus. Marco will have a smaller 4-inch screen with a 800×480-pixel resolution.
Also, it seems only the Odyssey will have NFC hardware and, therefore, will be the only device of the two to be able to take advantage of Microsoft’s new Wallet capabilities in Windows Phone 8.
