Samsung is planning another Windows Phone-based handset, a new report claims.
Dubbed the ATIV Core, the device will run on Windows Phone 8.1 and compete in the midtier of the smartphone market, Samsung-tracking site Sammobile reported on Friday, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the company’s plans.
Samsung last year decided to put its Windows Phone efforts on hold to focus on Android and its Bada operating system. However, the company recently had a change of heart and unveiled the ATIV SE, a device currently available for preorder at Verizon, that runs Windows Phone 8.1. That offering is designed for the higher end of the market.
According to Sammobile’s sources, the ATIV Core will feature a 4.5-inch display and 720-pixel screen resolution. The blog’s sources are unsure of when the device will launch and how much it will cost.
CNET has contacted Samsung for comment on the report. We will update this story when we have more information.
