Samsung ‘investigating’ Note 3 third

Samsung is aware of a problem with its Note 3 smart phone, which sees third-party accessories not working on phones running Android 4.4 KitKat.

The arrival of the new version of Android saw some third-party accessories (cases, for example) stop working, SamMobile reports. A statement on the subject was provided in German to site AllaboutSamsung.de, but now CNET UK has been sent an English-language reaction from the South Korean tech giant, attributed to a Samsung spokesperson.

“Samsung is aware of the issue with third-party accessories”, the Galaxy S4-maker says, “and is currently investigating it.”

While the official word from Samsung is brief, it is informative, as it confirms that Note 3 owners who’ve seen third-party accessories stop working aren’t imagining things — there really is an issue.

Fingers crossed a fix is released soon. If you’re desperate (and technically-minded), SamMobile reports there’s a manual fix available, but you’ll need root access to your device, and we don’t advise you go tinkering around with the insides of your smart phone, as it can be a risky process. Instead, I recommend waiting for an official fix from Samsung.

The latest version of Android started to arrive on Note 3 devices in Europe earlier this month. KitKat doesn’t bring many new features, but makes a few minor tweaks to the Android interface.

More broadly, KitKat is designed to work on phones without much memory, so in theory should be able to run on a wider range of older mobiles.
