Y’know, for kids! The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids is a 7-inch Android tablet for tots and toddlers, bairns and bambinos, and it goes on sale in the UK this week for around £199.
The youngling-friendly tablet’s screen is a 7-inch 1,024×600-pixel display. Underneath is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, and on the back is a 3-megapixel camera. There’s a 1.3 -megapixel camera on the front too for video chat.
The Tab 3 Kids runs Android Jelly Bean 4.1, but with a child-friendly interface and extras. The tablet comes with educational, entertainment and ebook apps and games, and you can add more from Samsung’s brand-new Kids Store.
An Application Manager allows parents to select apps that your nippers can use and play with, hopefully putting paid to shock in-app charges. And you can stop the anklebiters getting rectangular eyes with a time lock to limit how long they can play with it, locking the tablet after a set time.
Optional extras include a grippable, sturdy Kids Case and assorted stands. The case comes with a chunky C Pen for whippersnappers to doodle and draw on the tablet without leaving marks on your walls and wainscots.
The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids goes on sale online in the UK from this Friday, 1 November and is on shelves from 8 November. You can buy it from Toys ‘R’ Us, Argos, Shop Direct, Dixons, John Lewis, Asda and Samsung stores, and it costs £199 (price from Toys ‘R’ Us).
Other slates suitable for squirts and striplings include the sturdy £120 Tesco Hudl, or the LeapFrog LeapPad.
