Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge finally get a taste of Nougat

Want the latest Android software on your Samsung Galaxy device? Good news: Samsung is rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Samsung announced today that it is letting phone owners test out Google’s latest software through the Galaxy Beta Program. Android Nougat was unveiled back in August, but it’s taken months to get to non-Nexus phones. While Samsung’s Galaxy line is one of the more popular Android phones out there, other smartphones have beaten the Galaxy in the race to Nougat. Although the S7 and S7 Edge only get Nougat as a beta test, it gives Galaxy fans hope that a full release of the OS is not too far around the corner.

Starting November 9, S7 users in the US, UK, Korea, and eventually China are able to get in on the action. Folks can apply to the program by downloading the Galaxy Beta Program app or the Samsung Members app. This is not the first time Samsung has gone this route; the company originally launched the Galaxy Beta Program last year to get people testing out Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Samsung has stated that access to the program would be on a first-come, first-served basis, and some have reported that spots are running out. If you are a big fan of Android, it may still be worth trying to get a spot. Samsung did not respond when CNET asked if more spots would be opening up, or if all Galaxy phones will start getting the OS outside of the beta. Still, if you want to get excited about Nougat, be sure to read our review.
