New report echoes Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime June launch date

You know that premium version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone that Samsung doesn’t want to talk about? Chances are good that we’ll see it within the next few weeks, or so says a new report (translate) out of Korea.

Rumored as the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, the device could feature a higher-resolution display — 2,560×1,440 pixels — and a metal body. Benchmarks from early April tell us we could see an Android 4.4.2 experience backed by Qualcomm’s 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and a 16-megapixel rear camera.

It’s worth pointing out that the source mentions nearly simultaneous launches across Korea’s big wireless providers. It is possible that Samsung may keep this particular model close to home before rolling it out to other markets — lest they cannibalize sales of their current top dog.

Assuming that the release time frame is accurate, we might not call it a mere coincidence; LG is set to reveal its flagship G3 on May 27. Samsung could quickly counter any potential buzz by introducing its own “premium” smartphone.
