Samsung Galaxy S4 variant to get Snapdragon 800?

Samsung is planning to launch a Galaxy S4 variant with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 800 processor, according to a new report.

A user manual for a new Samsung device, known as the SHV-E330S (PDF), shows a spec sheet that includes mention of a CPU called the MSM8974. That product ID is the code name Qualcomm uses for its Snapdragon 800 processor.

The manual was originally spotted by RBmen and was posted again by Engadget.

The Snapdragon 800 processor has been making chip fanatics swoon since its announcement earlier this year. The system-on-a-chip (SoC) is capable of delivering vastly improved graphics over current versions bundled in devices and comes with the ability for always-on voice commands without hurting battery life. It’s also notably faster than predecessors.

The user manual that RBmen found doesn’t say for certain that the device featuring the Snapdragon 800 is a Galaxy S4. However, the specs and dimensions included in manual match those of the Galaxy S4, making it quite likely that a variant running the Snapdragon 800 is on the way.

The news comes just hours after LG and Qualcomm announced that they’re partnering on bringing the Snapdragon 800 processor to the next Optimus G. That device is expected to be shown off later this year.
