T-Mobile will carry the Samsung Galaxy S4 on or before May 1, chief marketing officer Mike Sievert told CNET today at an event in New York.
The newly prepaid-only carrier is the first to officially announce Samsung’s upcoming marquee phone, but others are expected to follow.
It isn’t clear yet how much the Galaxy S4 will cost on T-Mobile’s newly unsubsidized plans, but it will likely be in the same range as the Galaxy S3 is now, about $600.
T-Mobile will likely offer the option to buy the Galaxy S4 for a down payment of around $100, with a $20 charge per month for the next 24 months of ownership.
Samsung’s Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch 1080p HD screen, a 13-megapixel camera, and 64GB of internal storage, with an option to add 64GB more through an expansion slot. The upmarket handset will either sport a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 series chip or Samsung’s 8-core processor, though it isn’t clear yet which version will come to the U.S.
T-Mobile declined to comment on the pricing, exact availability, which colors of the Galaxy S4 that it will carry (white and/or black), and whether or not the phone will support 4G LTE. However, I strongly expect that it will, and the Galaxy S4 has been tested on T-Mobile’s LTE network ahead of launch.
