Samsung Galaxy S3 will have a home button, like the Note

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is set to boast a physical home button — just like the Galaxy Note. The hotly tipped follow-up to the hugely succesful Galaxy S2 is still under tight wraps, but word on the street suggests both hardware and software will echo the Note.

The latest rumour, from UnwiredView, is that the S3 will have a physical home button, like the S2 and the iPhone. Most Android phones eschew a physical button for touch-sensitive panels beneath the screen — prompting a hard-fought argument within Samsung between buttonites and button-belittlers.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has no physical home hutton, but the Galaxy Note does. And Samsung recently exclusively told CNET UK that it sees the Note as the spiritual successor to the S2, suggesting the Note points the direction the S3 will evolve.

The S3 is set to use the five-column layout seen on the Note’s large screen, rather than the four-column layout of earlier Galaxy phones. Hey, the Note also uses a stylus — maybe the S3 will too.

The S3 is likely to be a quad-core powerhouse. Other titbits of gossip about the S3 suggest it will have a 4.65-inch AMOLED Plus display, could dual-boot standard Android or TouchWiz-enhanced Android, and could charge without the aid of cables with wireless charging.

The Samsung Galaxy range has produced some fantastic phones, not least the original Galaxy S and its phenomenal follow-up, the S2.
