Put a note in your calendar: the Samsung Galaxy S3 could be arriving with the swallows of spring. Samsung is making a mystery announcement on 22 March, which may well be the hotly anticipated sequel to the galactically popular Galaxy S2.
Samsung has invited journalists to the media event in France on 22 March. Sacré bleu! Zut alors! Coq au vin! We’ve contacted Samsung to find out if a similar event is taking place in the UK, and we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
The S2 was unveiled at Mobile World Congress, the annual mobile phone trade show held in Barcelona every February. But Samsung has confirmed the S3 won’t be shown off at this year’s show. With S3 rumour and excitement hitting fever pitch, it seems Samsung wants to reveal the new Android powerhouse at its own event.
The latest reports suggest the S3 will hit shops in May, so an announcement at the end of March fits in with that. The phone is set to be the world’s thinnest smart phone, should rumours of a 7mm body prove to be true. It’s also likely to sport a quad-core processor, AMOLED screen and LTE technology.
The S3 won’t be at Mobile World Congress, but a plethora of exciting new phones certainly will. And so will you, because we’re bringing you up-to-the-minute news, previews and videos of all the cutting-edge new phones, right here on CNET UK.
The S3 has a lot to live up to. The Galaxy range of smart phones and tablets lead the Android pack and provide stiff competition to the iPhone and iPad. Check out our Samsung Galaxy buying guide to choose your favourite.
Can you wait until the end of March to finally feast your eyes on the S3? Tell us in the comments or on our Facebook page.
Update: Samsung has told us the event in France on 22 March has nothing to do with new products, which means we won’t be seeing the Galaxy S3 unveiled on this date after all.
