It looks like Samsung’s follow-up to the Samsung Galaxy S, the inventively nicknamed Galaxy S2, will be formally announced at Mobile World Congress — the massive phone trade show in Barcelona that kicks off on Valentine’s Day, 14 February.
The MWC arrival was tipped by Korean newspaper Chosunilbo just before the new year, and new reports from etnews add fuel to the burning speculation bonfire.
It looks as if the Galaxy S2 will offer a massive 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen to boot, that’s the same size display as you’d find on the truly enormous HTC Desire HD. The S2 is also tipped to have a dual-core processor, which is in line with comments made by Samsung reps at CES, which just wrapped up last week.
Finally, the S2 will hit the ground running Android 2.3, which is what we’d expect, and should bring the phone in line with the Google Nexus S, also built by Samsung. The report on etnews also mentions the phone will sport NFC technology, which could be used for mobile payments — but that could turn out to be anything, and most likely nothing in the UK.
There’s also a rather blurry mock-up picture included, which unless you tend to read articles from the bottom up, you’ve already enjoyed at the top of the page. There’s not a lot to see, apart from an intriguing squarish design.
