Samsung Galaxy S 2 hits 3 million sales

Samsung’s sold 3 million Galaxy S 2 handsets worldwide, within just two months of the Android-toting smart phone going on sale.

The figure is an early indication that the phone’s been hugely successful. We aren’t half pleased for Samsung, as the S 2 is one of the finest Android mobiles around, and quite possibly the best on the market today.

We reckon its success shows that consumers are increasingly savvy when it comes to buying gadgets, and that, while Android might not be a household name yet, there’s hope for Google’s geeky mobile operating system as long as it can find its way onto blindingly good hardware.

We awarded the Galaxy S 2 a mammoth 4.5 stars in our exhaustive review, praising its astonishingly slim frame, gorgeous display, and processor that’s so nippy we looked away for a second and it had filled out our tax return.

It’s worth noting, though, that Apple managed to put over 1.7 million iPhone 4s in punters’ pockets during the handset’s first three days on sale. But, for a phone that’s been subject to drastically less marketing and hype, the S 2 seems to have performed rather well.

Still, it faces stiff competition in the next few months, with the 3D-toting HTC Evo 3D and LG Optimus 3D both incoming. There’s the ominous shadow of the iPhone 5 looming on the horizon too.

Do you own an S 2? If so, has it lived up to your expectations? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, or on our Facebook page.
