Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite to light up new year, report says

If the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is just too much phablet for you to handle, you’ll be interested in reports of a possible low-fat Note 3 Lite.

SamMobile reports a Galaxy Note 3 Lite will be unveiled in the new year, boasting slimmed-down specs that should bring down the price.

Samsung is reported to be testing a model the same size as the current 5.7-inch Note 3, as well as a slightly smaller 5.49-inch version. It’s expected to be available in black or white.

The rumour suggests the slimmed-down Note 3 will be revealed at mobile industry hoedown MWC in Barcelona in February, and in shops within a month or two after that. CNET will be in Barcelona in force bringing you the cream of 2014’s new phones and tablets, so keep it right here for the first news, previews, photos and videos of all the coolest kit.

A Note 3 Lite is certainly a distinct possibility: Samsung has become the biggest phone company in the world by offering phones and tablets in all different shapes and sizes and at all different prices. And it has a history of using successful products by offering new devices under an established name, like the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, S4 Zoom and S4 Active, all spin-offs from the flagship Galaxy S4 smart phone.

The current Note 3 is due to be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat in January. Reinvented late this year with a new faux-leather effect case and fake stitching, the Note is notable for its stylus and split-screen multitasking features. Here’s hoping a Note Lite would be a more wallet-friendly way to enjoy those features.

At the time of writing, Samsung has not responded to request for comment.
