Samsung’s latest smart phone is brought to you by the letter M. The Samsung Galaxy M Pro is a new Android-powered smart phone with a Qwerty keyboard aimed at serious business types.
The M stands for Magical but the Pro means it’s aimed at busy businessmen and businesswomen doing busy business, with its keyboard and enterprise software such as Exchange Active Sync and Cisco Mobile. But it’s designed to be affordable, so the bean-counters in accounts won’t get their calculators steamed up.
Inside the 9.97mm case is a 1GHz processor and 1,350mAh battery. There’s a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a front-facing camera for video calling on the 2.66-inch, 480×320-pixel screen. It connects to the Web and other devices with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.
Samsung is naming phones differently from now on, and it’s all gone a bit Alphabetti Spaghetti: the flagship Galaxy S2 is at the top, followed by the premium Galaxy R (for Royal). The Galaxy W (for Wonder) occupies the next tier down, and the M slots in just above the entry-level Y (for Young).
Each phone in the Galaxy letter categories also has a word tagged on the end to tell you what the phone includes. The Pro in the M Pro’s name refers to the businessman’s favourite, the Qwerty keyboard, while Plus means a phone is a souped-up version of a current phone. LTE means a phone has superfast shiny new 4G technology, so won’t be coming to the poor ol’ backwards hillbilly yokel UK.
The Qwerty keyboard and the professional-sounding Pro name pitches the M Pro against rivals BlackBerry, long considered the quintessential blowers for business bods. BB has just unveiled the Curve 9360, which goes up against the Qwerty-packing Motorola Fire, also announced today.
