Strange things are afoot at the Galaxy K… Samsung is set to unveil a camera with a K, perhaps a snap-happy spin-off of the Samsung Galaxy S5 rumoured to be called the Galaxy K Zoom.

Samsung has invited members of the press to an event billed as a ‘Samsung Media day’ in Singapore. The tagline is “Kapture the Moment” and the image is a stylised ‘K’. CNET has been invited, so we’ll be there to bring you all the details. Update: Samsung is keeping its kards klose to its ka-chest, telling your humble korrespondent “We will unveil a new mobile product at the upcoming event.” What a kliffhanger!

A camera-centric follow-up to the S5 would follow a similarly photo-focused spin-off from the S4, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom , which offers 16 megapixels and a 10x zoom.

Earlier rumours about the S5 Zoom suggest it could boast a 20-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing lens. Leaks hint at a 4.8-inch 720p screen for the new model, also known as the SM-C115, with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage inside. It’s set to see Samsung’s Exynos 5 Hexa six-core chipset and Android 4.4.2 KitKat software in charge.

The K in the invitation seems to line up with previous rumours that the new cameraphone could be called the Galaxy K Zoom. Perhaps Samsung is adopting a new naming strategy after the S4’s spin-offs disappointed those who thought they were buying a better S4 but ended up with an inferior phone slapped with an S4 sticker — we’re looking at you, S4 Mini .
