Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801: Hit or myth?

Perhaps it’s a reaction to the prosaic minimalism of names like HTC Smart or iPhone 4, but Samsung has turned to the classics and the gods of mythology when christening its newest phone. The Samsung Galaxy Apollo i5801 is coming soon, sporting Android and an 81mm (3.2-inch) touchscreen.

The Apollo is an Orange exclusive, according to adverts seen online, but neither Orange nor Samsung has made an announcement. Instead we’ve pieced together fragments from Samsung and Orange‘s teaser Web pages.

Orange reveals the Apollo packs a 3-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and autofocus. The bright-futured network will offer the phone in black on pay as you go, or free on contract.

Orange reckon the Apollo will bring “fun functionality”, and Samsung thinks you’ll have “more fun” — as opposed to the Wave‘s “more entertainment” or the Galaxy S offering “more out of life”.

We’re hitting the Galaxy S launch tomorrow, so if there’s any Appollonian developments we’ll keep you posted.
