A pic purporting to be of the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 has popped up online, and it looks very similar to last year’s smash-hit budget blower.
The Ace 3 is expected to make its debut in 10 days’ time at Samsung’s Galaxy & Ativ event here in London, alongside a raft of new phones and tablets, such as the Tab 3 10.1, Galaxy Mega, Galaxy S4 Mini and Galaxy S4 Active.
The generally reliable Samsung gossip blog SamMobile says it got the pic from an anonymous tipster, who also provided some specs. It’s not a huge leap up from the hugely popular Ace 2 (pictured below), with a 1GHz dual-core processor instead of last year’s 800MHz chip, RAM bumped up a tad to 1GB.
Its screen has the same 800×480-pixel resolution, but stretched over 4 inches instead of 3.8, while it keeps the same 5-megapixel camera. On-board storage is the same at 4GB, although it’s expandable with a microSD card. Whether you’ll be able to install apps to that is a question we’ll be asking Samsung next week.
The Ace 3’s apparently been slimmed down from 10.5mm thick to a slightly more svelte 9.8mm, and will come in black, white and red, according to SamMobile. It’s due to run Android Jelly Bean.
If those specs are accurate, this is a very barebones upgrade for the Ace series, and should hopefully be accompanied by a sub-£100 price tag. It’s certainly a lower-end phone than its predecessor was a year ago, perhaps to make the S4 Mini look better value by comparison.
