Samsung boss hints at 10

Samsung has offered a strong hint there’s a 10-inch version of the Android-powered Galaxy Tab in the pipeline. The 7-inch Tab has attracted loads of attention with its AMOLED touchscreen, built-in high definition camera and ability to make phone calls.

When discussing the availability of the Tab in Ireland, Samsung’s local grand poobah Gary Twohig appeared to confirm that there would be different sizes. We could be putting two and two together and coming up with 10, however: although some reports have taken this to mean there will be a 10-inch version, the original report has since distanced Twohig from a definitive confirmation.

The Tab is smaller than Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad, a device that lacks many of the Tab’s features but is still the trendsetter in the burgeoning tablet market. The Tab is a seriously desirable bit of kit, but there has been controversy over its pricing.

Samsung wouldn’t be the first to offer multiple versions of a tablet: Archos has five in the works, starting at a 2.8-inch screen and working up to 10.1 inches.

All of which blurs the line between phone, PMP and tablet — and even television. We’re reaching the point where all mobile devices are just screens with the same multimedia, Web browsing and communication functions — the only differentiation is screen size, especially now the same mobile operating system can power almost any device.
