Samsung Electronics says its program to loan out Galaxy smartphones is a hit.
The company said on Friday that all of the devices earmarked for the program, which include the curvy Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and jumbo Note 5, have been reserved for users wanting to test out the phone. The program specifically targeted iPhone users, as they were the only ones allowed to participate in the promotion.
The success of the iPhone — particularly the larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus — has cut into Samsung’s sales, sparking this aggressive push by the Korean consumer electronics giant to get its devices into more hands.
The program launched at 12:01 a.m. ET and allowed iPhone users to, for a $1 processing fee, try a Galaxy S6 Edge, Edge+ and Note 5 on any major carrier for 30 days. The handsets, complete with free voice, text and a data plan, were all reserved within a few hours, according to a Samsung spokeswoman.
It’s not immediately clear when there will be more phones available to reserve. “We’re now working quickly on how to make the Ultimate Test Drive available to even more people,” she said.
Samsung did not immediately respond to a separate request for the number of devices it was loaning out under the program.
