In late spring, U.S. Cellular revealed through its Facebook page that it would be bring two Android smartphones, the HTC Desire and Samsung Acclaim, to its lineup this summer, and we now have a release date and pricing for one of those devices.
The Samsung Acclaim will be available July 9 for $99.95 after a mail-in rebate. With the purchase of the phone, the carrier will also give customers a $20 gift card to use toward app purchases in the Android Market.
Google’s Android 2.1 operating system powers the Acclaim and the phone has a 3.2-inch capacitive touch screen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The smartphone also has a 3-megapixel camera with LED flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ships with a 4GB microSD card.
In addition to the stock Google services, U.S. Cellular preloads the smartphone with a few extra apps, such as City ID, My Contacts Backup, Your Navigator Deluxe, and Tone Room Deluxe. We’re looking forward to checking out the Acclaim, and, overall, it looks not too shabby for $100.
U.S. Cellular has not made any announcements about the HTC Desire.
