Here we go again. New reports online today suggest that the long-rumored Amazon smartphone is finally close at hand.
According to tech blog BGR, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a note to clients that “Amazon (US) will launch its own brand smartphone in 3-6 months, using the same hardware strategy as used for its e-reader and tablet.” For those keeping track at home, this would put it on the market roughly two years after the first rumors copped up.

Kuo also predicts six cameras that include front and rear cameras, plus additional for touch-less gesture controls. It just so happens that this analyst has a fairly solid track record in the smartphone space.
Apart from the cameras, chatter also points to a 4.7-inch display, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, and a battery capacity around 2,400mAh. In other words, it should be powerful enough to satisfy the needs of most users.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard whispers of extra cameras for Amazon’s smartphone. Reports from last October tell of Project Smith, where cameras in each corner of the front track eye movements and gestures.
Given how close we are to the rumored launch of the handset, we should be on the lookout for new leaks. After all, we’ve yet to see the obligatory blurry photos of one in the wild.
