Motorola’s popular Moto G (Late 2015) jumps on a new carrier on October 27: Republic Wireless. The prepaid carrier will sell the budget phone in both 8GB and 16GB models — and both black and white colors — for $200 and $230, respectively.

Republic Wireless is somewhat of a disruptive force in the prepaid service space because it’s a Wi-Fi first network. Its service primarily taps Wi-Fi hotspots for coverage, falling back on traditional cellular towers when Wi-Fi isn’t available. Moreover, it lets customers transition to and from Wi-Fi and cellular networks, even during calls.

As of today, Republic Wireless only offers two smartphones as part of its service: the entry-level Moto E (2nd Gen) and the more upmarket Moto X (2nd Gen) . The forthcoming Moto G will land firmly in the middle.

Specifications for the third-generation Moto G take in a 5-inch display with a 720-pixel resolution and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. Powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop, the handset supports 3G and 4G data connections and has a microSD card slot.
