Qik video calls, video mail for iPhone

Smartphone video sharing app, Qik, today updated its iOS offering to include a range of new communication tools such as video calls to other Qik users and the ability to leave video mail for contacts who are offline.

Qik Connect Plus builds on the standard Qik video sharing capabilities currently available across a range of smartphone platforms including Android, Symbian and the late Windows Mobile. Users of Qik on these platforms can record video and upload it to a number of popular social networks or stream their feed live via their Qik user profile. These features are still available in Connect Plus, but iPhone 4 users will also be able to make video calls to others using Qik on iPhone over 3G or Wi-Fi. They can also stream video live to Facebook and Twitter, as well as their profile on Qik.

The app will also take advantage of the iPhone’s video editing capabilities, using the same clip-trimming tools found in the iPhone’s own video capture tool. There’s also a range of new image filters that can be applied in real time to video, including live streams and video calls.

Qik Connect Plus is available now via iTunes for AU$3.99.
