The O2 network is down in London and the South-East. O2 is working on fixing the mobile phone network, with an unidentified problem nixing O2 users from making calls or surfing the Web.
O2 says, “We’ve got a problem that means you can’t make calls, use the Internet, or send/get emails the east London/Essex area.”
The snafu appears to have begun around 10 o’clock this morning, when O2 spotted a problem with 2G and 3G services in East London, North London, Kent, East Sussex and Essex. The network currently reporting that service is being restored and if you still encounter problems with your phone you should try turning it off and on again.
If you’re on budget networks GiffGaff or Tesco Mobile you may also have had problems, as they use O2’s infrastructure to bring you your cheap callage, textage and Web surfage.
O2 hasn’t identified the cause of the problem yet. It seems there aren’t any handy thieves or vandals to blame this one on, unlike last month when the network was knocked out across London and the South-East. Miscreants broke into a technical facility and had it away on their toes with some equipment, leaving customers without calls, texts or mobile Internet access for the best part of a day.
A similar act of tea-leafery banjaxed Vodafone’s network earlier this year.
