Nokia X5 and X6 8GB: Square of X

It’s all go in the mobile phone section of Crave today, innit?
Nokia is piling in with the X5 and X6 8GB, a teen-aimed 3G social networking handset and a memory-boosted version of the Nokia X6.

The X5 is a square phone with a slide-out qwerty keyboard and dedicated music key. Well, square-ish, measuring 74mm x 66mm and 17mm deep with a hand-friendly curved back. Fun — but not terribly practical — features include spinning the phone to skip a track, or shaking to call up unread messages, each signified by a bouncing ball.

It runs Symbian S60 and sports a 2.36-inch QVGA screen, 5-megapixel camera and LED flash. You connect to the Web via HSDPA, Quadband GSM, Wi-Fi 802.11b or g and bluetooth. A 2GB microSD card slot comes in the box.

Nokia claims the battery will clock up to 16 days standby time or 24 hours of music playback from a single charge.

It will arrive in teenagers’ hands in the third quarter of this year, starting in
Indonesia for €165 — there is no word yet on UK pricing or availability.

Update: In an earlier version of the story we stated the X5 is not a 3G phone. We’ve corrected this after seeking clarification from Nokia.
