Nokia Lumia hero phone will lead ‘new season’ of devices

Nokia has a new hero product in the works, which will kick off a wave of new devices. With rumours swirling about the Nokia Lumia 928, the Nokia Catwalk, the EOS PureView and a possible Samsung Galaxy Note 2 rival, it seems the Finnish phone-fanciers have a few things up their sleeve.

That new flagship device, no doubt a Lumia phone with Windows Phone software, will kick off a “new season” of product launches.

Discussing today’s financial results, Nokia boss Stephen Elop said the flagship device will land on a US network in the next three months.

So what is this hero product? It could be the rumoured Nokia Lumia 928, destined for US carrier Verizon and sporting a 4.5-inch OLED display in a thinner case than the current flagship, the Lumia 920.

Reports say Nokia is working on a ‘phablet’, with a screen around 5.5 inches or so. Somewhere between a phone or tablet — hence the name — the Nokia phablet would be the first larger device to bridge the gap between Windows Phone and Windows 8.

Then there’s the camera-focused EOS PureView, which will bring features and technology from the 41-megapixel Symbian-powered 808 PureView.

And that’s not to mention a phone dubbed, according to rumour, the Nokia Catwalk. If leaks are to be believed the Catwalk has another 4.5inch display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of memory and an 8.7-megapixel camera in an aluminium frame.

Today’s results reveal Nokia made a loss in the first three months of the year, but sales of Lumia smart phones are on the increase.
