Nokia Lumia 928 battles Galaxy S3 in live concert shootout

Nokia’s Lumia 928 is again duking it out with Samsung’s Galaxy S3.

In a YouTube-posted video of a jam session in a New York subway, Nokia touts the Lumia 928’s ability to record high-quality audio. Pitted against the Galaxy S3, the 928 naturally comes out on top — a given since it’s Nokia’s spot. In the video, the 928 is able to deliver better sound at a high volume with no distortion, a feat that its rival couldn’t match.

Like the Lumia 920, the 928’s microphone uses High Amplitude Audio Capture to pump up the volume of a recording while remaining free of distortion.

A clip posted to YouTube yesterday compared the quality of video shot in low-light conditions among the Lumia 928, Galaxy S3, and Apple’s iPhone 5. Again, the 928 emerged victorious, courtesy of its 8.7-megapixel PureView camera.

Consumers may actually get a peek at the Lumia 928 at a Nokia event on May 14.

A Chinese blog site named WPDang says that next week’s event in London will focus on the Lumia 925, also known as “Catwalk,” according to Windows Phone Central. The new phone is reportedly aimed at topping the Lumia 920 by offering a slimmer, all-aluminum body and and a thinner PureView camera. Still, the Lumia 925 itself may be nothing more than a variant of the 928.

Citing “insider sources,” Chinese site Windows Phone Bar says the 925 will simply be Verizon’s version of the 928 geared for the U.S. market.

Nokia and Verizon Wireless have reportedly been chatting about offering the 928 sometime in May, Bloomberg recently reported.

Nokia itself has been teasing the 928 this week with a photo on its Web site and a magazine ad in Vanity Fair promoting the phone’s PureView camera.
