Nokia Lumia 925 Glance Screen shows the time all the time

Want to save yourself precious time when checking the time? The Nokia Lumia 925 hits shops in Germany today ahead of the UK release this month, and is first to show off Nokia Glance Screen.

Glance Screen shows the time and other quick at-a-glance information on the screen permanently, so you can see the time without having to press a button to wake the phone.

Above the clock is a battery indicator to show how much juice you have left, and an icon showing whether your phone is on silent or not. If you want to actually use your phone, you can unlock it by double-tapping on the screen.

When you stick the 925 on your bedside table you don’t need a permanent clock glowing in the corner of your eye, messin’ with your circadian rhythms an’ that. So in night mode, Glance Screen dials down the brightness while it’s next to your bed.

Glance Screen will come to other Windows 8 phones in the Amber update, due to land this summer.

Windows Phone will get another big update later in the year with Windows Phone Blue, the mobile version of the Windows Blue update that will transform Windows 8 into Windows 8.1. According to a leak from someone claiming to have bought an updated Nokia phone on eBay, the phone update will include the option to sort apps instead of just sorting them alphabetically, and a new look for notifications.

The Lumia 925 is the European version of the Lumia 928, the leading light in the Lumia lineup. It packs a 4.5-inch screen and an 8.7-megapixel camera with PureView features, all encased in a metal frame. You can order now from assorted networks, and it’s expected to arrive on 26 June.
