Nokia Lumia 800 to hit Aussie stores in March

Nokia Australia today announced its “return to the Australian smartphone market”, with plans to start selling the Nokia Lumia 800 in Australia in March.

The new handset will be for sale through “Optus, Telstra, Vodafone and all major retailers”, according to Nokia’s press release, though pricing wasn’t mentioned. The handset will be released in four colour variants: black, cyan, magenta and white.

The Lumia 800 is Nokia’s first Windows Phone release since the company announced last year that the Microsoft-made operating system would be the primary software used by Nokia smartphones going forward. The Lumia 800 uses the latest version of the Windows Phone software, codenamed Mango, matched with a 1.4GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Even though this will be the first Nokia Windows Phone to be released in Australia, it has already been superseded. Nokia announced the Lumia 900 at CES in Las Vegas this year, a phone with a larger display than the 800, and with 4G connectivity. The Lumia 900 was named the best smartphone of CES 2012 by CNET in the US.
