Nokia is planning a slate of new Windows Phones — and if you don’t have an arm and a leg to spare, the rumoured Lumia 610 could be for you.
Nokia will have a number of new Lumia phones ready to launch this month, Pocketnow reports, and the 610 is set to be the cheapest of the lot — sorry, most affordable.
The new phones will be unveiled at the end of the month at Mobile World Congress, the annual phone show in Barcelona.
Details of the possible 610 are scarce, but as a budget model it’s likely to be available on pay as you go and low monthly contracts.
The current Lumia line-up consists of the Nokia Lumia 710 and the flagship Nokia Lumia 800. A version of the Lumia 900 for Europe could also be unveiled, as it’s only available in the US at present.
New extra-budget Symbian and S40 Asha phones are also expected.
Windows Phone is currently a relative minnow in the mobile world, but Microsoft hopes a Nokia revival will help the operating system fight back against Android and Apple. Currently one of the biggest problems with Windows Phone is a lack of apps, but that could change with the arrival of Windows 8 later this year, which will share apps across computers, tablets and phones.
I love Windows Phone, so more choice of phones and apps can only be a good thing as far as I’m concerned. I’m excited to see what Nokia and Microsoft have up their sleeves — the competition will keep things interesting with Apple and Android.
CNET will be at MWC in force, so keep it here for the latest phone news, hands-on previews and videos.
