Nokia eyes launch of 6

Nokia is reportedly working on a new smartphone that could dwarf the vast majority of handsets available now.

The Lumia 1520 will boast a 6-inch, 1080p HD display, The Verge reported Sunday, citing a person who claims to be familiar with the company’s plans. In addition, that person provided to The Verge images of what is claimed to be the Lumia 1520.

The Lumia 1520, which has been pictured previously, is known as “Bandit” within Nokia, according to The Verge, and will be made available in the US on AT&T’s network “in the coming weeks.” The device will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 16-megapixel camera, The Verge’s source says. It will come with 32GB of onboard storage and an SD-card slot for additional capacity.

The possible launch of a Lumia 1520 will come just months before Microsoft is expected to close its $7.2 billion acquisition of Nokia’s mobile devices. Under the terms of the deal, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will join Microsoft as an executive vice president.

CNET has contacted Nokia for comment on The Verge report. We will update this story when we have more information.
