More Nexus rumours alert. The Nexus 5 could don a bed sheet with two eye holes cut in it and launch on Halloween. That’s Thursday, for those of you not really bothered about trick or treating. Not only that, the Nexus 4 could go back on sale in a new 4G variety.
The excellently-named Mobile Syrup has been tipped off about the Thursday launch for the Nexus 5. Apparently Canadian networks will get it a few days later, so UK networks could work in the same timeframe.
Of course this is all hearsay, so best take it with a pinch of salt.
Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to make its debut on the Nexus 5. Google accidentally listed the Nexus 5 on Google Play recently, so it can’t be far off.
But that doesn’t mean the Nexus 4 will necessarily be left for dead. There might be life left in the old handset yet. A filing at the Bluetooth SIG — spotted by Engadget — hints that the Nexus 4 is now certified to support LTE for 4G connectivity. The Nexus 4 actually contains a 4G chip, but it doesn’t do anything. That’s because the handset contains a lot of the same innards as the LG G2. Sadly it can’t be upgraded to work over 4G using a software update. So if it’s real, this LTE version will be very interesting indeed.
The Nexus 4 sold out on Google Play recently, following a stock clearance. The price was dropped to just £160, which is an astonishingly good deal. Let’s hope this 4G version, and the Nexus 5, manage to be cheap as well.
The Nexus 10 is also thought to launch in time for Christmas. It’s rumoured to made by Asus instead of Samsung, but until Google makes the announcement, nothing is official.
