Amazon’s Italian site has listed a protective case for the Nexus 5 with a 30 October release date, suggesting that this may be the day we see the next Nexus go on sale.
You’d be wise to take that release date with a pinch of salt, as it’s entirely possible that the case-maker listing its products is merely taking an educated guess at when Google’s upcoming smart phone will arrive. That said, a release date at the end of this month would definitely make sense.
As a flagship Google phone, the Nexus 5 will almost certainly arrive in tandem with Android 4.4 KitKat. Nestlé, the maker of the four-fingered chocolate, has been busy tweeting cryptic clues concerning the upcoming software, including ‘everybody dance now’ and ‘this is it’.
Peering into the dance-hit tea-leaves suggests we could see the Nexus 5 make its official debut as soon as tomorrow — or perhaps the 28 October, depending on your reading of the mysterious chocolatey hints.
A 30 October release date for the Nexus 5 itself wouldn’t be impossible, then — though, if we get an announcement this month, that would see the phone hitting shop shelves very quickly after its official airing. Last year the Nexus 5 was announced on 29 October, and went on sale on 13 November.
Previous rumours have suggested the Nexus 5 will be revealed, er, two days ago. So it’s still all very much up in the air for now.
The question of the Nexus 5’s announcement and release dates has gripped the tech world like an Android-powered vice! When do you think we’ll see the fifth Nexus on sale? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.
