With just a week to go until Mobile World Congress takes over Barcelona (and we descend mob-handed), another company has announced some phones early.
ZTE will launch the PF200 and N910 at MWC, Business Wire reports. Instead of its usual budget fare like the Tania or Skate, however, it’s taking on the likes of Apple and Samsung with some high-end models. But does it have what it takes to roll with the big boys?
It seems ZTE isn’t dipping its toe in the high-end water — rather it’s tucking its knees to its chest and bombing right in. Both models will run Ice Cream Sandwich, making them among the limited Android handsets to do so. The PF200 (pictured above) is the flagship, with a 1.2GHz processor, a 4.3-inch QHD capacitive touchscreen, and an 8-megapixel camera. The front-facer will be 1080p, showing your crow’s feet in amazing detail in video calls, so make sure you look your best. It’ll have DLNA, so it’ll play nice with your other devices, and NFC for touch transferring data.
The N910 (pictured below) has more power behind it than the PF200, but is lower-specced in almost every other aspect. There’s a 1.5GHz processor, a 480×800-pixel capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera and the same 1080p front-facing video camera. Wi-Fi and DLNA are on board, but no NFC.
These are the “fore-runners of a wide-range of LTE devices ZTE will bring to the market in the coming months,” according to the executive vice president of ZTE. The PF200 will also work across the GSM spectrum, so hopefully we’ll see it or a very similar version touch down in the UK.
ZTE’s budget handsets are impressive, with many touting it as the new HTC. It’ll be interesting to see it take on the likes of Apple and Samsung in the high-end stakes. Fingers crossed that it’s factored the UK into its plans.
