Those of you gagging for the near-mythical white iPhone 4 should gag no more. Apple’s delivered the news every ivory-fiending fanboy’s been waiting for — the milky mobile will be available in 28 countries worldwide, including the UK, from Thursday 28 April. Hey, that’s tomorrow!
Apple chose to reveal this news at exactly the same time as it came out with its baffling and nonsensical defence of the location-tracking farrago. It’s almost as if it didn’t want us to notice the white iPhone.
“The white iPhone 4 has finally arrived and it’s beautiful,” gushed Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. “We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we’ve worked to get every detail right.”
British mobile networks O2 and Three are the first to confirm availability of the handset, which will be sold on the same price plans as the original black iPhone 4 on both networks. O2 is starting it at £21.50 per month on a 24-month contract, with £305 upfront.
On Three it’ll be available for an initial cost of £229 on a £25 per month tariff on a 24-month contract. If you want it on Three’s The One Plan — which gives you all you can eat data — you’ll have to shell out £69 up front for the handset and pay £35 per month for two years.
For those of you who can’t stomach the idea of being tied to a contract for two whole years, Three is also selling both iPhone 4s on a pay as you go basis for a one-off payment of £499. With this deal, a £15 top-up will net you 300 minutes of voice calls, 3,000 texts and unlimited data.
Obviously, O2 and Three won’t be the only networks offering the ivory iPhone 4 — Engadget reckons it’ll be on Vodafone, for one. We expect the others to announce pricing and availability in the coming hours, so keep your eyes peeled.
