ViewSonic has sprung another surprise by launching a new 10-inch dual-boot tablet, following this week’s 7-inch £350 tablet reveal.
The ViewPad 100 can dual boot into either Windows 7 Home Premium or Android 1.6. It will cost £550 and is out in October.
The capacitive touch screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a sensor that orientates the screen depending on how it’s held. Inside, there is a 16GB solid state drive, an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz processor, and 1GB of RAM.
A dual-boot tablet might sound like a good idea, but we weren’t won over by the concept when we saw it applied to an Acer Aspire One netbook we reviewed last year.
Android 1.6 seems like an odd choice as most Android phones are shipping with a later version, 2.2. Gizmodo Australia suggested that version 1.6 was chosen as it’s the most recent version that could support the Atom chip, which sounds convincing to us.
On first glance, the ViewPad 7 we’ve looked at looks a much better proposition than the ViewPad 100, as it has kept things simple with the Android 2.2 OS, plus it’s £200 cheaper.
