ViewSonic has unveiled its new 7-inch Honeycomb tablet, dubbed the ViewPad 7x, and its new 10-inch dual-OS tablet that can run both Windows 7 and Android.
The two tablets are on display for the first time this week at the Computex computer show in Taipei, Taiwan.
Powered by a dual-core Nvidia processor, the ViewPad 7x sports a capacitive 10-point multitouch screen (meaning you can use all 10 fingers to navigate and manipulate the screen) and provides cameras both on the front and back. The tablet includes an HDMI port and support for DLNA so it can work with an HDTV and home entertainment center. Beyond offering Wi-Fi, the device also can tap into the high-speed HSPA+ networks offered by AT&T and T-Mobile.
With the latest Intel Oak Trail processor under the hood, the ViewPad 10Pro will include options to run both Windows 7 Professional and Android. Though details were sparse, a ViewSonic spokeswoman confirmed that Android would actually run under Windows in a virtualization mode rather than as a separate boot option.
Sources cited by tech site Pocket-Lint had earlier this month already revealed that the ViewPad 7x would make its debut at Computex this week.
The ViewSonic spokeswoman said that the ViewPad 7x would launch late June, while the ViewPad 10Pro will debut in August.
The June debut date for the Honeycomb-based ViewPad 7x tablet would seem to be at odds with information provided by an industry source who recently told CNET that Google is only now working on a maintenance release for Honeycomb that would allow it to run on 7-inch tablets, potentially pushing back the launch of such tablets to September.
