Thanks to a recent FCC listing, we may have a pretty good idea of what Verizon Wireless’s next big Android phone might be. Listed as the HTC PD42100, the slider phone boasts what appears to be a 4-inch screen with a spacious keyboard spread across four rows. A quick glance and one might mistake it for the upcoming G2 from T-Mobile.
According to the FCC documents, the PD42100 features support for CDMA and GSM networks, EV-DO Rev. A 3G, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n/), and Bluetooth. The back of the phone shows that it has a removable battery, a microSD expansion slot, and a camera with a LED flash. There’s no mention of the processor and memory, but I’d guess that we’ll get at least a 1GHz chip with 512MB RAM/ROM. Based on HTC’s recent history, I’d expect the camera to be in the range of 8 megapixels.
Don’t be surprised if this handset appears by the end of the year. Verizon hasn’t released an HTC phone since the Droid Incredible back in May and fans have been begging for an Evo-style phone with a QWERTY keybaord. The last few weeks have seen a handful of HTC code-names leaked. Look for some of these to start getting paired up to FCC filings and “in the wild” pictures. Right now, I’ll go with HTC Blitz for the PD42100. Call it a hunch.
