You can finally bring your own device to Verizon Wireless, and it’ll matter.
Verizon said in a blog post on Monday that customers who bring their own device and sign up for a “More Everything” plan that is under 8 gigabytes will get $10 off of their monthly access fee, paying $30 a month on top of its voice, text, and data plan. The offer begins April 17.
The move finally brings Verizon to parity with the rest of the industry, which has long since afforded breaks to customers who had brought in their own devices. In February, Verizon offered a discount to customers who signed up for its Edge monthly installment plan, but left the bring-your-own-device crowd out in the cold.
It’s part of a broader shift away from a complete reliance on subsidies, which are associated with higher priced plans, and more toward a wide array of options for customers who may not necessarily want to lock themselves into a contract.
Verizon is also giving existing customers a chance to switch to More Everything by offering them a discounted monthly access fee if they sign up with their current device. The monthly access fee is $15 or $30 depending on the data they choose. This part of the plan also takes into effect on April 17.
Verizon said the offer is available for a limited time.
