SAN FRANCISCO–Sprint has announced the LG Optimus S, one of three devices the carrier is launching with its new Sprint ID pack system.
As with the Sanyo Zio and the Samsung Transform, you will be able to select a pre-configured ID pack for your Optimus S. The ID packs include special widgets, wallpapers, and presets that suit a certain package–for example, the Yahoo ID pack will have customized widgets for all your favorite Yahoo news feeds.
The device itself is pretty similar to the Optimus One and the Optimus T. It has a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen and will ship with Android 2.2. Features include a 3.2-megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G/EV-DO, and the ability to act as a mobile WiFi hotspot for up to five devices. The Optimus S is billed as an entry-level smartphone and is priced appropriately at $49.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract with Sprint. It will be available on October 31.
