A handful of month-old pictures surfaced online today showing what appears to be the Samsung follow-up to the Nexus One. After news of Best Buy’s accidental mention of a Nexus S today, we’re starting to see things unfold rather quickly. At this stage, it’s not a matter of whether or not the phone exists, but rather a question of when it will appear.
FCC documents are shedding light on the model number for what turn out to be the Nexus S. As pointed out by Android Community, the GT-i9020 looks identical to the images provided to Engadget, plus the markings found on the packaging bear an ‘i9020’ in red marker. Detail-oriented Android enthusiasts know that this is remarkably similar to the i-9000 Galaxy S.
What’s more, Best Buy is guilty of a second leak, thanks to a new in-store flier from the retail giant. Even with the potential for Photoshopped images and approximations, it’s hard to argue with the stock Android image and Galaxy S-like form factor. According to AndroidandMe, the hardware for the Nexus S includes a 1.2 GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and a 4-inch AMOLED display. Much like current Galaxy S devices, it also features a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and HD video capture, a front-facing camera, and support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
One rumor suggested a November 11 release date for the Nexus S, but recent hardware issues appear to have delayed things. As to how long it will be before we see these announced remains to be seen. And related to all of this I wonder, is an official Gingerbread announcement being held back until the phone is readied?
