Brace yourselves, Samsung fans. The company has scheduled a new Unpacked event for August 29, where it’s assumed it will debut a new Galaxy device. As to whether we’re in for a smartphone or tablet remains unclear at this point, but our Magic 8-Ball points to both. Specifically, we might expect a hybrid of the two form factors in Samsung’s second world version of the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy Note II.
Whispers have circulated for some time now that Samsung is readying a new version of the so-called phablet, with an impending fall arrival.
Hardware is rumored to include a larger, 5.5-inch display, a dual-core 1.7GHz processor, a 12-megapixel camera, and a newer version of Android. I’d love to see Android 4.1 Jelly Bean preloaded, but it’s more likely we should anticipate Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
It’s worth noting that Samsung has another event scheduled for August 15, where they have planned a “major announcement and unveiling of the newest Galaxy device.” CNET expects Samsung to trot out the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet with stylus that it first showed off at Mobile World Congress in late February.
