Samsung may raise the ante on size for its next Android tablet, if recent chatter is to be believed. According to sources close to SamMobile, Samsung is currently developing a whopping 18.4-inch tablet.
Samsung has been fighting to maintain its lead among Android brands on both the smartphone and tablet front. A gigantic platter of a tablet would not only carve out its own space, but it might also create a new user segment (schools, office) altogether.

Reportedly running Android 5.1 Lollipop, the device is said to pack an octa-core 64-bit (Samsung) Exynos processor running at 1.6GHz. Memory is pegged at 2GB with internal storage listed at 32GB. Additional storage, coming by way of a microSD card slot, could allow for up to 128GB more for saving your movies, e-books and games.
Like more traditionally sized tablets, the 18.4-inch model, which is said to be going by the code-name “Tahoe,” is alleged to offer two cameras, an 8-megapixel sensor on the back and more modest 2.1-megapixel camera up front. Other purported details include a 5,700mAh battery and its model number (SM-T670).
In an interesting twist, and perhaps to keep costs low, the display may come in at only 1,920×1,080 pixels. That would be an acceptable resolution for a 10-inch slate, but images could look very grainy on a screen measuring almost 20 inches. The 12-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, for example, offers up a crisp 2,560 x 1,600-pixel image.
There’s no indication when Samsung could introduce the 18.4-inch tablet, but if it’s really in the works, the yearly IFA electronics show is the next major industry trade event, taking place in Berlin early September.
Samsung did not respond to a request for comment.
