Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet heads to AT&T, T

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet will soon find a home at both AT&T and T-Mobile.

Both US wireless service providers said on Wednesday that they would carry the company’s flagship metal-framed tablet, and announced pricing and availability details.

T-Mobile will be first out of the gate with the tablet, selling it for $650 beginning September 3. Subscribers can purchase the device for $0 down and $27.09 per month for 23 months with a final payment of $26.92 due on the 24th month.

AT&T will offer the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 one day later for $600. Qualified customers interested can spread the equipment cost out over 20 payments at a rate of $30 per month. AT&T will also sell the tablet for $500 with a two-year service agreement.

The Galaxy Tab S2 hits the market at a time when the broader tablet market has languished with the lack of notable new features justifying an upgrade. It marks a drastic turnaround from just a few years ago, when tablets represented the next hot device in the consumer tech world. The tablet market is expected to decline by 8 percent this year, according to IDC.

The Galaxy Tab S2 features the same aesthetic found in other recent Samsung smartphones and tablets. And, while it still employs plastic, the device has a more premium look and feel than its predecessor. This could prove important in the battle for tablet supremacy as the unit bears more than a passing resemblance to another, fruit-branded slate.

Running Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 offers a 9.7-inch display with a 2,048×1,563-pixel resolution. Internally, the tablet draws power from an octa-core processor with 3GB RAM.

Storage is listed at 32GB for the tablet, however a microSD expansion card slot opens the door for saving photos, movies, and other media. Should you need more than what is allotted, the unit will support up to 128GB external storage.

Other noteworthy specifications include an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5,870mAh battery which promises up to 8.5 hours of Internet browsing. To keep things secure, the home button on the Galaxy Tab S2 can be locked and unlocked via an integrated fingerprint scanner.
