Nokia Lumia 925 kicks off with new Glance Screen

Nokia’s new Lumia 925 smartphone can show you the time and battery life without you having to press a button.

Consumers in Germany will get their first crack at the 925 as the phone debuts there on Monday. Sales will then ramp up in other European countries and in China, followed by the United States and other global markets.

The 925 will sport several innovations, with the phone’s Glance Screen among them.

The new screen can display the time and battery level. And it does this while in sleep mode, so there’s no need to press a button to wake up the phone. Double-tapping the screen then unlocks the phone, whether it’s by itself, in a docking port, or in a car holder, according to Nokia.

Glance Screen is still in beta mode, so 925 users can easily disable the option through the Settings menu.

The Lumia 925 also is outfitted with a metal design available in white, gray, or black. It offers an 8.7-megapixel PureView camera with image stabilization. And the Nokia Smart Camera lets you snap ten shots at once and edit them within the phone.

Powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, the 925 offers a 4.5-inch AMOLED WXGA 1,280×768 pixel display. The screen is made of Gorilla 2 glass for greater durability. It also includes a Super Sensitive Touch feature that can handle taps and swipes from people with gloves or long fingernails.
