Nexus Prime with Ice Cream Sandwich coming on 11 October?

Samsung and Google are teaming up for an announcement on 11 October. Are you thinking what we’re thinking? Because we’re thinking Nexus Prime and Ice Cream Sandwich.

What do you mean you were thinking about Batman? Concentrate for a second, dude.

Samsung is holding a press conference at the CTIA mobile industry shindig in California in just over a week, like all Sammy’s big trade show announcements, titled Samsung Mobile Unpacked. This one is subtitled Google Episode and promises “a look at what’s new from Android”.

What’s new from Android is Ice Cream Sandwich, the next generation of Google’s mobile operating system. And we know that Samsung is building the next flagship Android phone, the Nexus Prime, which will be the first to be powered by ICS. Ergo, we reckon the Nexus Prime will take a bow on the 11th. QED, innit.

If it is the Nexus Prime, the new Android powerhouse will be unveiled exactly a week after its biggest rival, the iPhone 5, set to be revealed just 400 miles up the Pacific coast at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino this Tuesday.

The iPhone also packs a new operating system, iOS 5, which features wireless updates, souped-up camera options and notifications that could look suspiciously familiar to Android users. Ice Cream Sandwich unites the phone-sized Gingerbread version of Android with the tablet-focused Honeycomb and includes updated multi-tasking and camera features.

The launch kicks off at 6.30pm on Tuesday 11 October. You can watch the announcement live at YouTube.com/Android, and keep it CNET UK for all the news and photos on the day. Are you expecting the Nexus Prime? Tell us your thoughts down in the comments or on our Facebook page.
