The Moto X, the next smartphone from Motorola Mobility, got a glimpse of daylight thanks to Google Chairman Eric Schmidt.
Schmidt was spotted using Motorola’s upcoming phone at Allen & Co.’s Sun Valley, Idaho, media conference this week. You can see a photo of the Moto X in Schmidt’s hands above and at right.

In addition, a possible picture has emerged, purporting to be the rear of the phone, and was released on Chinese micro-blogging Web site Weibo (registration required). Tech Web site Pocket-Lint picked up the picture and the story.

The Moto X is part of a series of phones that are expected to be the first ones created by the new regime from Google. The Moto X is expected to be highly customizable, with back covers and colors that customers can choose from. The picture shows a soft matte black cover and it’s rounded as well. There’s a camera lens in the center, with a flash and the Motorola logo underneath.
Motorola is working to win back some relevance in the Android sector and is expected to get decent support from Google. For now, Samsung Electronics remains the dominant player in Android with its line of Galaxy smartphones.
The Moto X, as well as a number of new Droid phones, are expected to launch on Verizon Wireless later this year.
Motorola declined to comment on the leaked picture.
